Behind the Seams: Creating Four 13-Foot Sashes for Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour in Houston 🤠✨

When you run a custom embroidery and textile business, you never know what project might come to your inbox. Most days I’m working on custom graduation stoles, sashes, or custom embroidery orders. But every once in a while, a project arrives that is completely on another level.

Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to create four custom 13-foot sashes for the Cowboy Carter Tour stop in Houston, Texas. Yes—13 feet long each. It was easily one of the largest and most exciting projects I’ve ever worked on.

Here’s a look behind the scenes at how they came together.

The Request

The request was both exciting and intimidating: to create four oversized sashes that would work for a backdrop photo op for the fans before entering the stadium.

Planning a 13-Foot Textile Project

Before touching a sewing machine, I spent time planning the logistics.

At this size, even simple things become complicated:

  • Fabric yardage calculations
  • Ribbon to sash ratios
  • Ensuring the lettering would remain straight across such a long span
  • Managing the weight and drape of the finished sash

The Construction Process

Once everything was planned, it was time to build the sashes.

Working with pieces this long requires a different workflow than standard sashes. This is where back to back tables came into play in my small space. My workspace had to be adjusted so that the fabric could move freely without dragging or pulling. Handling that much fabric while maintaining perfect alignment takes patience. Every time the material shifts, it can affect how the final piece hangs.

Seeing the Project Come to Life

There’s something surreal about working on pieces that will appear in a massive environment like a stadium.

As a maker, most of my work is seen by individuals or small groups. Knowing these sashes would be part of a major tour stop in Houston made the project feel incredibly special.

Projects like this are a reminder that custom textile work can scale in ways people don’t always expect. From small personalized gifts to stadium-scale pieces, the same skills apply—just with a lot more fabric.

Final Thoughts

Creating these sashes for the Houston stop of the Cowboy Carter tour was one of the most unique commissions I’ve taken on. It pushed my equipment, planning skills, and construction techniques in ways that smaller projects simply don’t.

But that’s exactly why I love what I do.

Every project, whether it’s a custom embroidered gift or a 13-foot stage piece—is an opportunity to create something that didn’t exist before.

And sometimes, those projects end up on some very big stages. 🎤✨
